Paediatric prescriptions are unforgiving — a single mis-placed decimal in a mg/kg calculation can mean an underdose (no effect) or a serious overdose. Our Free Pediatric Dose Calculator takes the arithmetic out of the OPD.

What is the Free Pediatric Dose Calculator?

It's a browser-based tool from SmartClinic India that converts weight (kg) + dose (mg/kg/day) + syrup strength into an exact per-dose ml value, splits it across frequency, and caps at the adult maximum. No signup, works on any phone.

How to calculate a paediatric dose in 4 steps

    1. Enter the child's weight in kilograms (e.g. 12.5 kg).
    2. Pick the drug or enter mg/kg/day — presets for paracetamol, ibuprofen, amoxicillin, azithromycin, cefixime, ORS.
    3. Enter syrup strength (e.g. 125 mg / 5 ml) — the tool auto-converts to ml.
    4. Choose frequency — TDS/QID/BD; per-dose ml and daily total show instantly, with adult max cap.

    Safety features & max-dose cap

    • Adult-max cap — auto-limits total daily dose so a heavy child never exceeds adult max.
    • Frequency split — daily dose divided by BD/TDS/QID so you prescribe per-dose ml, not daily total.
    • Syrup ml conversion — handles any strength (125/5, 250/5, 100/5) in one field.
    • Weight sanity check — flags unusually low/high weight-for-age.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How is a paediatric dose calculated?

Weight in kg × dose in mg/kg/day = total daily dose. Divide by frequency (BD/TDS/QID) to get per-dose. Convert mg to ml using syrup strength (mg per 5 ml).

What is the paracetamol dose for a 10 kg child?

    10 kg × 15 mg/kg = 150 mg per dose, given every 4–6 hours. With a 125 mg / 5 ml syrup that's 6 ml per dose.

What is the amoxicillin dose for a 15 kg child?

    15 kg × 40 mg/kg/day = 600 mg/day, given TDS = 200 mg per dose. With a 125 mg / 5 ml syrup that's 8 ml TDS.

    Does the tool prevent overdose?

Yes, it applies the adult-maximum daily cap and flags total doses that exceed it — but always verify against the current BNF for Children.

    Is the calculator free?

Yes. No signup, no trial limits. Works on any phone or tablet.

Can I use it for infants under 1 year?

Yes, but many antibiotics have age-specific limits under 3 months. Cross-check with paediatric guidelines for neonates.
